Welcome to the North Coast Big Band Website!

The North Coast Big Band was formed in 1987 by members of the North Coast Concert Band who expressed their desire to play the music of America's big bands of the 1930's - 1950's. The first rehearsal was held after a regular Tuesday night Concert Band rehearsal, reading through music borrowed from an area high school.

From the beginning the  musicians knew something good was happening. Rehearsals continued. The next North Coast Concert Band concert provided the first opportunity for the new group to perform publicly. The response of the audience was phenomenal! The North Coast Beg Band was a a hit!

Now the Big Band is part of every concert performed by the North Coast Concert Band during the regular concert season. The North Coast Big Band has its own summer concert season and plays for private events such as dances and receptions throughout the year.

The 16-piece band includes five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, bass, piano, and drums. Two of the musicians also sing with the Big Band. The repertoire has grown from five borrowed pieces to over 200 charts purchased by the Big Band. The collection includes traditional big band music popularized by the bands such as those led by Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. Also in the Big Band's collection are jazz arrangements and classic rock.
